Why San Francisco
Why San Francisco groups ride with Zum
Zum has been San Francisco Unified School District's transportation partner since 2021, and has supported more than 2,000 SFUSD field trips a year. That volume teaches you the details a first-time planner can't know: where a full-size bus can load for the California Academy of Sciences, how much buffer an Alcatraz ferry slot at Pier 33 needs, and which city streets restrict larger vehicles.
Your trip starts from Bayview, minutes from Oracle Park and Chase Center, with the Exploratorium about 15 minutes away and the SF Zoo about 25 to 30 minutes across the city, and a quick run down US-101 to Peninsula pickups in Daly City, Brisbane or South San Francisco. For Muir Woods, the Marin Headlands or an East Bay tournament, tell us your route and we'll build bridge tolls and timing into the plan before you book.

FAQ
San Francisco charter FAQs
How much does it cost to charter a bus in San Francisco?
Pricing depends on the vehicle you need, how many hours and miles the trip covers, and trip costs such as bridge tolls and venue parking. Request a quote with your date, headcount, pickup address and destinations, and Zum will price the right vehicle for your group before you commit.
Does a charter bus pay the Golden Gate Bridge or Bay Bridge toll?
The toll applies to every vehicle. The Golden Gate Bridge charges southbound only, by axle count, and has no cash lanes. The Bay Bridge tolls westbound into San Francisco. Ask for tolls to be listed in your quote so the full trip cost is clear up front.
Where can a bus load and wait for a California Academy of Sciences visit?
Charter buses use the loading zones on John F. Kennedy Drive near the Conservatory of Flowers, with daytime bus parking near the Music Concourse in Golden Gate Park. Tell us your arrival and departure times and your driver will plan the drop-off and pickup around them.
Can you time our drop-off to an Alcatraz ferry departure?
Share your Pier 33 ferry time when you book and we'll schedule arrival with enough margin for Embarcadero traffic and group check-in. For classes that combine Alcatraz with Fisherman's Wharf or the Exploratorium, we can plan a multi-stop day with one vehicle.
How many students fit on one school bus?
A full-size school bus seats up to 72 younger students, three to a seat. For smaller groups, a mini bus seats 24 to 36 and a passenger van seats 12 to 15.
