Certified School Bus Drivers at Zum play an essential role in our communities by providing safe and reliable transportation for students, using a combination of industry-standard tools and Zum’s own platform. 

Zum has been awarded the Seattle Public Schools contract and you will be driving a school bus for SPS students to and from home or charter bus rentals.

Yes, a Washington commercial driver’s license is required. Zum will pay for training and certification if you are not yet a Certified School Bus Driver. 

Our training program has you covered! We will walk you through every step of the certification process and make it easy for you to start your new career at Zum. 

Zum handles the communication and logistics with schools so you can worry more about safely and efficiently getting students to their destination. We offer modern digital tools such as easy to use tablets that are in stock and ready for use so you’ll quickly and easily know the routes (including changes) and students you are picking up. 

Our new, modern bus depot is located in South Seattle, 1/2 mile from I-5 and 2 blocks from Rainier Beach Light Rail Station.

Drivers shall be guaranteed a minimum of six (6) hours of work or pay, regardless of whether buses are carrying students. You will work morning and afternoons, 6+ hours a day on average, with opportunities for additional routes, trips and hours for other assignments as they become available.

In the unforeseen event that you work overtime (we know Seattle traffic can be a drag), you will be compensated accordingly.

Full medical benefits, including dental.

Drivers will be paid a base wage depending on years of driving experience, ranging between $31.00–$36.40/hour.

Yes, your prior commercial driving experience will be honored for the purpose of determining your pay.

We plan to recognize seniority, regardless of union affiliation. We will eventually lock in the seniority and all future hires will come in at the bottom of the seniority list. Yes, of course you can. Unemployment benefits are paid based on eligibility criteria involving how many hours you’re able to work, not how many places you’re actively employed.
