Zum powers student transportation in Boston, Salt Lake City, Virginia Beach and Fresno for 2025-26 school year

As back-to-school season kicks off nationwide, Zum is proud to power safe and reliable student transportation in Boston; Salt Lake City; Virginia Beach, Va.; Fresno, Calif., and other school districts through its industry-leading technology platform.

In addition to providing full-service transportation, Zum offers its technology as a standalone product. Zum’s platform has been implemented by Boston Public Schools, Salt Lake City School District and Virginia Beach City Public Schools. This is the first year Fresno Unified School District has adopted Zum’s technology.

“By adopting Zum’s technology platform, school districts have replaced walkie talkies and paper routes with state-of-the-art technological infrastructure — and the results are immediate and transformative,” said Ritu Narayan, Founder and CEO at Zum. “Zum improves safety, transparency, communication and efficiency for students, families and schools, giving them exceptional service as well as peace of mind.”

“(Zum’s technology) is giving us so much insight into what’s happening in transportation,” Fresno Unified Transportation Director Paul Rosencrans told local news station ABC30. “We can see ahead of time that a bus is maybe running late, we can track that route and we can adjust it proactively. Parents are going to be able to track their bus and get real time ETAs so they’ll know exactly where their child’s bus is.”

Zum’s platform includes sophisticated routing software and GPS tracking as well as Zum’s Parent App. Zum’s cloud-based technology optimizes school bus routes, reduces student commute times, and tracks children’s arrival and departure from school while connecting parents, drivers, schools and administrators in real time.

“We are always looking for ways to improve student transportation for the families and students that we serve, and Zum has a proven track record for increasing safety, improving commute times and facilitating data-driven decision-making,” stated Ken Martinez, Transportation Manager, Salt Lake City School District. “Before Zum, we were using paper route sheets, and none of our technology was connected. With Zum, we have been brought into the modern age — and so far, we are delighted with the results.”

Rosencrans added, “The software is great for us and the technology is great, but really it’s about peace of mind and communication.”

Zum serves more than 4,000 schools across 14 states nationwide. We are proud to be powering the future of student transportation and excited to launch the 2025-26 school year in Fresno, Salt Lake City, Boston and Virginia Beach!
