Zum Honors Roanoke Drivers for Their Outstanding Commitment to Safety During School Bus Safety Week

Last week, Zūm drivers and staff joined Roanoke City Public Schools (RCPS) for a special event recognizing exceptional drivers and showcasing Zum’s industry-leading safety technology. 

Held during National School Bus Safety Week, the event honored drivers with outstanding safety records and highlighted how Zum’s modernized fleet and data-driven operations help ensure every ride is safe and reliable.

“At Zum, student safety is at the heart of everything we do, from our advanced technology to the ongoing training and development of our drivers,” said Ravi Patro, General Manager for Zum in Roanoke. “This event allowed us to demonstrate how our team keeps students safe from the moment they step onto the bus until they arrive home, and to celebrate the incredible professionals who make that possible every day.”

Through this partnership with RCPS, Zum has helped the city maintain an on-time arrival rate of 98%. Local news outlets WDBJ and WFXR also highlighted the event and Zum’s advanced safety technology.

“The responsibility that we place on drivers and aides is immense, and it’s great when we see the pride they take in what they do and the care that they provide our kids,” Chris Perkins, Chief Operations Officer at Roanoke City Public Schools, told WDBJ. “We’re on time, and our kids are safe when they’re on the buses.” 

Perkins added, “We wanted to bring them together to recognize them in front of their peers for a job well done and let the community know how well our bus drivers and aides do for the safety of their children.”

At Zum, all drivers are required to adhere to specific safety protocols while picking up or dropping off students and while driving, including a pre-trip and post-trip Daily Vehicle Inspection Report. Drivers are also equipped with a GPS-enabled tablet that provides real-time route updates, personalized information on every student’s needs, and easy-to-use incident reporting capabilities. The Zum App allows parents to see real-time information about their child’s vehicle location and pickup or dropoff status, along with a profile of their child’s driver.
