Zum Announces ‘Boundary Search’ Feature For More Efficient, State-of-the-Art Student Transportation
Today Zūm announced a new feature that improves how school district transportation teams plan and analyze routes by turning days of analysis into minutes of work and providing clear data for quicker, more informed decision-making.
The feature, “Boundary Search,” allows teams to draw boundaries directly on a map to instantly visualize students, stops and campuses.
Boundary Search enables coordinators to:
- Draw custom boundaries directly on an interactive map to define precise search areas
- Instantly locate students, stops, and campuses within the defined area
- Visualize student-to-stop assignments to understand how students are currently served
- Apply sophisticated filters to refine results based on specific criteria
- Export comprehensive data lists for further analysis or reporting
This powerful tool eliminates hours of manual data compilation and provides transportation departments with actionable insights in minutes, not days.
Districts experiencing success with the feature include Salt Lake City School District, which used it to evaluate the transportation impact of moving students from a middle school to a junior high school.
“Boundary Search allowed our transportation team to quickly identify additional routes we would need if the district changed school enrollments,” said Ken Martinez, Director of Transportation, Salt Lake City School District. “We analyzed current student locations, visualized stop assignments and overlaid existing routes to determine service gaps. The feature gave us a solid foundation for decision-making — and saved us a lot of time.”
Zum’s Boundary Search offers distinct advantages over traditional transportation planning tools, including an intuitive interface, real-time filtering, seamless integration with Zum’s routing tools, collaborative features and one-click exports for further data analysis.
Whether district transportation teams are responding to board inquiries about potential transportation changes, planning for school boundary adjustments, or optimizing daily routes, Boundary Search puts powerful analytical capabilities at their fingertips.
Boundary Search is now being implemented in Zum’s partner districts nationwide.
