Q&A with Daniel Berenbaum, Zum Chief Financial Officer

Daniel Berenbaum joins Zūm as CFO following financial leadership roles at several technology and energy companies, including Bloom Energy, NI (National Instruments), Micron, and GlobalFoundries.

In his new role, Berenbaum will provide critical financial leadership as Zum continues to expand and deliver safe, reliable student transportation to thousands of schools nationwide.

Berenbaum shares why he’s happy to be part of the Zum team — and what baseball team he’s rooting for:

What excites you about your new position at Zum?
The opportunity to be part of the transformation of an industry that hasn’t changed for 80 years — and to help meet today’s needs of schools and communities to modernize student transportation.

Which Zum pillar resonates with you the most? (Flexibility, Equity, Efficiency, Safety, Sustainability and Community)
The pillar of community resonates quite strongly with me. Everything we do at Zum enables and empowers communities. Parents feel better about how their children are transported, school districts have more confidence in their ability to get students to their seats, and communities are more sustainable and have more resilient energy services.

What’s your ideal way to spend your weekends?
Relaxing with family and friends — getting outside to play a round of golf with my wife, having friends over for dinner and drinks.

What is your favorite sport and what team are you a super fan of?
I’m from The Bronx, so of course it’s the Yankees.

What’s the most recent book you’ve read?
I tend to read more short-form work — I’m a big fan of The New Yorker and The Atlantic. One of my favorite recent articles as I went back through some old New York Times issues is “How fast could a human being throw a fastball?”

What was the last photo you took?
A group family selfie at the Globe Theatre in London:

Welcome to Zum’s team, Dan!
